Hello World!
My name is Katie McRaven, I am an artist and craftsperson who has wandered happily back into the natural world. I am here to assist in research, gain my own insights, as well as lend my eyes and brain where they are needed! I am either making jewelry, drawing/illustrating, collaging, making food, or outside learning!
I am particularly fond of fungi, being that they were the catharsis that led me into working the sciences as a community member, self-taught, graciously offered knowledge by many educators, researchers, and elders in the field of mycology, professional or non-professional.
My current work is in my city of Long Beach. I am interested in the insularity of urban landscapes and their effect in conveying mushroom diversity through movement. Being a resident of Southern California, and Long Beach for 25 years, I cannot unlink my pondering of this port town with transference, believing it to be a wondrous case study for possibly rare fungi and their prevalence in urban settings.
