The recent report regarding spider crabs in Coffin Bay is NOT a new event. A similar congregation of thousands of these crabs in Coffin and Kellidie bays about thirty years ago at this time of year. The few crabs we accidentally caught on our fishing lines were cooked but there was virtually no meat inside them. They were grouped on clusters of several hundred.

Hi @willyo, thank you so much for taking the time to let us know. That is great to get more information on crab activity in SA! With that sighting 30 years ago, may I ask whether there were any moulting activity (some signs include seeing bright orange crabs, or seeing soft crab shells on the beach)? Kind regards,
Elodie
