About 30 or 40 of these were crawling on the ground, as if newly hatched. None were flying. It was suggested they might be young tarantula hawks.

This is not an ant. It was huge, could cover a quarter. Found it at a gas station, there were other wasps dying on the ground. Some had huge translucent burnt orange wings. Reminded me a lot of a Velvet Ant, this one is just naked.

Found this old pictures and movies of queen ants. Never when back and ID them. At the time had a huge problem with leafcutter ants. (Still do... but like 2016) My thoughts at the time these were Leafcutter ant queen. these are huge compare to the other cutter ants.
It was pre-dawn opened the garage door with lights on. These queens got attracted to the garage lights an flew in. It was a nice swarm about 30-50?
