Description
Stung me on the shoulder while deep in Garganta del dino cave. found scorpion still on my shirt when i got out to the entrance 15 minutes later. Reaction not too bad. hurt stronger than any wasp, felt like a vaccine afterward, pain into the evening. Not very much swelling, pain in the armpit down into my tricep, up my neck and bicep a little. later on felt a little numb and dull pain. but energizing zinger at first!

Description
This is an undescribed new species that we are planning to publish as Costus convexus. It is quite common in this area and I have seen in all across the eastern flanks of the mountains from Putumayo, Colombia to Zamora-Chinchipe in Ecuador. It is a huge plant, with large leaves and inflorescence, sometimes growing to 5 meters tall. The young shoots and leaves usually have a white powdery (glaucous) coating. The upper leaves tend to wrap around and hide the inflorescence. It will be named for the convex shape of the bracts.
