We were in a marine protected area north of Riung, Flores studying flying foxes...and found a Komodo dragon on the same beaches instead. The ranger belatedly told us there were also 9 Komodos on this island, so we just hung out in the boat far from shore until it left. It liked to sun on the only beach we could pull the boat up to, so we just had to wait.
Goannas George at left and Geoffrey at right. This is Geoffrey's first appearance this spring.
