Stem: Red to white, Glabrous, mostly subterranean
Leaves: Parallel venation, +2 per plant, Oblong with rounded apex, green, basal and more less clasping
Flower: 3 sepals, recurved with maroon striations and red and white checked pattern, petals almost cylindrical and circular, Style 3 branched, 3 stamens, anthers purple to maroon, red to yellowish brown, nectaries present on sepals,
Placental arrangement: One locule with 3 rows of ovaries born on the ovary wall,

Description
These plants less hairy than other var californicus that I have seen. Last photo is of one pod showing dry calyx in fruit from this patch nestled among three from var jepsonii from Joice Island in Suisun Marsh. Noticeably smaller plant with smaller leaves and narrower stem wings.
