Description
Very confused, was as big or bigger than my Vizsla and the exact same color (golden brown) - didn't get a good look at the tail, but it was large with a distinctive head shape and swam fast. Perhaps an escaped capybara from an exotic game ranch? Or maybe just a massive Nutria or beaver? Not sure!

I thought it could also be very young bracket fungus, since there was a lot of Stereum complicatum (crowded parchment) and Stereum ostrea (false turkey-tail) around the area this was found. It seemed to have a little bit more of a distinct cup shape though, which is why I’m leaning towards Scytinostroma artocreas.

White, rubbery, dry shelf on rotting log near trail with velvety gray underside. Spores, if visible, are very small, possibly round. Aroma sweet, fragrant, like Lactarius camphoratus. Has same coloration and texture as Kretzschmaria deusta.
