These sporocarps were found growing gregariously in a small clump of Port Orford cedar in the middle of a wet bog (Darlingtonia present). Presumed saprotroph.
The aroma on these was fairly mild, nutty, but also with plant-y/weedy notes. Very solid, small fruiting bodies, growing shallow in the soil.
From 10 yards of road. Insane density
Harney County
a nice big boa! w/ @veltkamp
likely female; several meals, perhaps ate a whole litter.
Between fallen bark under downed trees.
Adult female
This photo has recently gained some notoriety: on 2/22/24, Kanye West snagged it from the Wikipedia article about mountain goats and made it his profile picture on Spotify and Tidal. (And no, he did NOT provide proper attribution as required by the CC-BY license!)

I think. Green colors faded as they matured in my collection box (3rd photo shows immature sporangia)
Not much of a photographer, but that might change after accidentally taking this photo. This was one of the top species I wanted to see in Borneo, and it was easier to find than I thought. The Dusun word for these is "Takang", which is also what the call sounds like.
Turquoise hues, bulbous base. Under noble fir and hemlock.
Found on the crawl, oddly enough
Lincoln County
Undescribed, aff. myrmecophila, on carpenter ants.
Same locality as last year - found in soil and moss, in a wet creekbed in conifer forest.
With Pseudotsuga and Tsuga. Stinky cheese-like odor. Immature, no spores, but clamps and basidia present
A garter snake doing its due diligence and eating invasive bullfrog
Two birds moving back and forth over the Benton/Lane County line on Prairie Peak. Unusual and a first in the Coast Range for me. There have been reports from the Coast Range in several counties over the past few days.
Anise smell, found under spruce
Guess who's getting the floor repaired in her bathroom!
This observation collected under a BC Parks permit to visit Woodley Range Ecological Reserve. Note that this Ecological Reserve is closed to the public: research is conducted via permit.
Massive 240' ft+ Douglas fir with a dead top. it is not the largest douglas fir in this stand. one of the only old growth sites in Columbia County. old growth was logged right up to the ridgeline where it sits. unstable and muddy hillsides. logging this patch of old growth would be a mistake if it happens.
Cozy Lycopodium!
I found this nest hanging at about eye-level in a ceanothus bush next to the trail.
I was exiting the freeway and saw these three clowns pecking at the signpost on the side of the road.
This is right next to a part of the canyon with a growing number of Acorn Woodpeckers. They have also spread to the end of Rose Canyon just west of Genesee.
A number of Port Orford cedars have been planted in the Harbor Vista Campground, perhaps as part of "reforestation" following the 1962 Columbus Day storm. This site, and Lane County in general, is well north of the northern natural limit of the species' distribution, as I understand it.
None of the trees are obvious natural regeneration so I am calling this observation "cultivated". One tree in the campground has reddish-brown foliage and appears to be dying, so it may be that Phytophthora lateralis has now arrived.
This incense cedar has seen fire, nearby smaller incense cedars did not show bark char.
Characterized by dorsal eyes, pale lip, and distinct rosettes on back.
Deciduous tree with pinnately lobed leaves that have distinct points on lobes.
Tree—at least 30 ft tall. Flowers surrounded by large white bracts. Compound, small flowers. 4 petals and stamens, 1 pistil.
