for anybody reading this who wants the specimen, it is now in the grass near the 146.5 mile sign on northbound I-69, near a piece of old landscaping equipment (NE of the pin)

I actually saw this specimen a week ago but I didn't stop for it then, luckily it has been dry enough as to be preserved. I have also seen other roadkill on 69 in the area that I originally thought was snapping turtles but now I wonder if those may have been dillos as well

Likely same bat on same tree after the holiday weekend. Seen first at 10am with eyes open and preening and scratching itself. Checked again at 4pm and was still there but sleeping. Guessing that they like to roost in the same spot and that the twinkle lights bring in a source of moths and other snacks when active at night.

two juveniles - possibly siblings. The lower bird is the same one as in the previous observation. It was perched in the mesquite minding its own business when the other bird flew in apparently intending some aerial play.

I am looking at this bird and seeing breeding feathers on its head and back. Is this a possible Snowy Egret x Little Blue Heron hybrid?

If so, there were two birds with similar plumes and plumage observed from the observation tower at Lettuce Lake Park - one to the west and the other to the east at the same time.

Bizarre pose! The head is bent down, almost touching the tree branch, with one wing bent. The bird held this pose for minutes at a time before standing up straight. When I circled back some time later, it was back in this position.

This is 3rd posting of Black Squirrel from my backyard feeder. The three observations were from 2008 to 2011. I am trying to locate earlier pics as well as I think there has been a black squirrels showing up for more that 10 years. One was drowned in a neighorbor's hot tub several years ago so there is more than one althought I have never seen more than one at any observation. To provide size estimate the Feeder is 18" x 14" and 2.5" deep
