First Oregon record on iNaturalist, though it has been recorded in the state a handful of times before. There were other Pantala flying in the field but I didn't get a close enough look at any of the others (P. hymenaea was present here a few weeks ago).

This individual was flying in the narrow Southern part of the field near the railroad tracks, away from the large darner swarm.

This was a surprise. It was a long way out over the wetland--NW of the walkway, near the far edge of the wetland--but its frequent hovering on a regular patrol circuit made it possible to get a few photos that are reasonably sharp.

Experts - What is going on here? This male American Kestrel sure did seem to have the hots for this female Merlin. He kept trying to get close to her and even brought her a few treats (insects?) from the grass beneath the fence. She accepted the treats but didn't seem thrilled with the attention. However, when he flew off, she followed him...

Per Sandra Hunt-von Arb: "The general shape, especially the constriction at S2 and overall length of the abdomen is consistent with Darner and the simple cerci are consistent with California Darner." (The bird is an Olive-sided Flycatcher.)
