Terrestrial in beech (Fuscospora cliffortioides) forest. Growing in dense leaf litter amongst Hymenophyllum multifidum, and Dendroligotrichum dendroides. Fruiting body 'cap' c.50 mm diameter, on stout stalk, whole structure dark purple, top of 'cap' almost velutinous ('soft' to touch). Very uncommon - seen only once.
