It is missing a little bit of tail. Created great interest to a novice beach comber who proudly carried it home.

Heartened by the recent discovery of a confirmed ruby seadragon, which I had given to an enthusiastic lady on the beach, I thought that next time I was in Hopetoun, I would look through the ones I had previously collected. I read the Stiller, Wilson & Rouse paper and convinced myself that this also is a ruby seadragon. I don't know when I collected it or exactly where but it was well before this website began. This means that 20% of the seadragons I have found over the last 8 years have been ruby seadragons.

Field Notes - Magnificent 375+ year old Flooded Gum which still stands in part due to the efforts of vigorous senior citizens that know the offensive use of the umbrella and walking stick and have defended the tree from successive shire CEOs that have thought it would be easier to remove it.
Home to all of my next 17 sightings! Would be more but the lizards are quick and there is a lot of tree to hide in.

This grows in the Eucalypt under-story in the leaf-layer. I call it a "thumb pine" because it resembles a pine tree in miniature, and is about the size of my thumb. No idea what it is, but it is very common.

Description
One of several Chiloscyphus species with teeth on outer leaf margin (images 6 & 7 show detail). This species also has a distinctive odour. The under leaves are widely bi-lobed with an additional tooth per lobe (image 5). They also connected to the main leaves on both sides which can also be seen on image 5 while the dissection process means only one side connection remains on images 8 & 9. You can also see this connection on the right side of image 10. Image 11 shows detail of the under leaf teeth and you can see the small trigones between the cells of the main leaf in the final image.
