We have been monitoring this site for a long time and were shocked to see this fern in such poor condition this year. Last year it was large & robust. Large fronds from last year still there, and we could also see 3-4 undeveloped fiddleheads. Wondering if the late Spring cold snap/freeze affected it this year?

Unsure on this one, but my impression in the field was definitely P. braunii over setigerum. Photos like #7 look perfect for braunii to me, but other fronds look to have less stalked pinnules (and some enlarged pinnules at the base) which leaves me with a little doubt. Shown on the left in the last photo, and in direct comparison to the neighbouring plant (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/136882666) in the second-to-last photo (this plant in the hand, other plant in two fronds behind).

Description
A new species for me if confirmed. Rather similar to P. andersonii in general, but without any sign of bulblets despite being a large & mature plant, and it being late in the season. All andersonii in the area, even small plants, had reliable bulblets present on all fronds.
Lower pinnules on the larger pinnae are distinctly stalked, while the rest are attached by a wide base. Certainly very different than P. braunii.

🇬🇧 I had known I'd find this fern in the Kamenice river valley and it indeed grew in many many places but this one, under the Navarov castle ruin, took my breath away. Dozens of large plants.
