Sorry about the bad focus. See the second photo for clear detail. I am not sure about the ID as there is very small information I can find on the web...but I believe this is Pleocoma minor, which is not available option in iNaturalist at the time of the post.

Description
First heavy rain in Santa Cruz County, CA. Found two upside down (legs moving) in shallow puddles neighboring a sandhill ecosystem that also borders a coast redwood ecosystem. Observed a flying rain beetle the following day.

Description
Two flew into the sliding glass door in Lawson Valley shortly after sunset. First fall rainstorm. I caught them and released them farther from bright artificial lights. Hopefully they get lucky out there!

Sitting on the ground by the side of the main building. Rain continuing for a second day here.
This one had some facial damage but the head ornamentation looked different from the first I saw and the antenna lamellae were not out. Maybe a female?

Flying around about 3' up and bumbling around slowly so it was easy to catch. Incidentally it was raining.
