Description
Habitat: urbano/domestico.
🇬🇧🇺🇲 A Black and yellow mud dauber wasp (Sceliphron Caementarium, family Sphecidae, the family of solitary wasps). They take the name from the way the female build the nest: in fact, she picks up some mud from the ground to build cells; then she captures some spiders (even more of ten for each cell), paralyzes them, puts them into the cells and into each one lays a single egg, so that the larva will have food while is growing. These wasps belong to the suborder Apocrita, one of the two suborders of the order Hymenoptera: what distinguishes the Apocrita from the Symphyta (the other suborder) is that in these insects, the abdomen is clearly separated in two parts by a narrow waist called petiole (while in the Symphyta the abdomen is continuous with the thorax). In this species in particular, the petiole is very well visible.
Habitat: city/home.
