I’ll be honest. I have no idea what this, at first glance I thought it was a Cordycep. The fruiting bodies are dry, thin, and strong.

Over the past few days, an Eastern Cicada-killer Wasp (Sphecius speciosus) has been bringing dead cicadas to this hole in our patio, trying without much success to put them into that hole. We think that that hole leads to a small cavern, perhaps excavated by a chipmunk.

Some of the original trees reaching Bermuda evolved into distinct new, endemic species that occur naturally nowhere else, e.g., Bermuda Cedar (Juniperus bermudiana) and Bermuda Palmetto (Sabal bermudana); however, scale insects introduced during the Second World War construction of United States Navy and United States Army Air Forces bases devastated the forests, killing over 99% of the Bermuda cedar ("The Blight", or "The Cedar Blight"), and the salt-tolerant Casuarina equisetifolia was planted as a replacement species, and then a small number of Bermuda cedars have been found to be resistant to the scale insects
