Hibiscadelphus x puakuahiwi, a hybrid between H. giffardianus and H. hualalaiensis. This tree is apparently the only surviving one; a large number were generated after both were planted in this area (only H. giffardianus is native to this side of the island) and seeds from crossings were unknowingly planted. Once discovered, the hybrids were cut down. Amazingly, this tree also survived the recent fire. Usually the flowers are a mix of the traits, both large and yellow; this is the first time I've seen a red flower (as in H. giffardianus) on it.
