Second one that has shown up in my garden at Cypress Grove in the past month. A real Hummingbird (Anna's) chased it off.
About 1/2" across, on the underside of rubble. Have not seen this shape at Pillar Point before.
Less than 1cm long
Was at least 2” long and had a huge spike on its bottom. It was probing the spike into the tire treads. Really a very large insect for here. The biggest wasp-like thing I’ve ever seen in person.
On Baccharis glutinosa
Growing on dead hardwood in moist chamber.
Found underneath a tarp that was on a table saw. After resting on the ground for about five minutes it fluttered up into a horse chestnut tree. Wingspan about 3.5 - 4".
just floating by, low inter-tidal, about 1/2".
maybe Nymphopsis spinosissima?
Several beat from Baccharis, collected three with permission, tentative species ID based on similar insects on BG identified by Andy Hamilton, also posted to BG here:

Grown in moist chamber on decaying wood from nearby woodlands.
About 5ft up on an old Harding grass stem
Mating?
Not all the pollen makes it into the nest.... but scavenger bugs are ready to help!

these bees were swarming in a patch on the road above hearts, desire beach. I heard from a ranger that the hive had fallen to the road. Very curious why they would persist in staying there unless the queen was injured or something.
