Bolbe with attachments
I've never seen a mantis with any sort of attachments, but this little one was covered in large dirt particles - maybe for camouflage? It didn't seem accidental and certainly did a good job of breaking up the mantis's outline, so I'm curious to know whether the mantis did it itself. Has anyone seen this sort of thing before?

Description
Mantis, with striking pink colors, drowned in a river. Notice (in the second picture) a series of yellow dots on each fore coxa; these (in varying numbers) were present on several of the mantids I saw on Indonesia. I have no idea what they are there for (perhaps pheromones?), and they perplex me; after much searching, I have yet to find any mention of them on the Internet.

Description
Big mantis. I played with her for several hours and named her Artemis, a counterpart to Diana the huntsman spider from Kabaena. The pictures dull the colors somewhat, but the top part of her head and the edge of her prothorax were bright pink.
She tended to shuffle sideways and hide in response to movement, tucking under my hand.
Also, fun fact: The space between the mantid's legs in the last picture is the mantis equivalent of an ear.
