සුළු විෂ - Slightly Venomous
The Ceylon Flying Snake, scientifically known as Chrysopelea taprobanica, is a fascinating reptile native to Sri Lanka. This arboreal snake is known for its unique gliding abilities. It has a slender body that can grow to approximately 1 meter in length.
What makes this snake remarkable is its ability to glide through the air. It achieves this by flattening its body and forming an S-shape, which allows it to glide from trees to the ground or between branches. The snake doesn't actually fly, but it can glide for considerable distances, making it an excellent tree-dwelling predator.
The Ceylon Flying Snake is primarily insectivorous, preying on small animals such as lizards and rodents. Its remarkable gliding capability aids in its search for prey and escaping from potential threats in the forest canopy. This unique snake is an example of the diverse and fascinating reptile species found in the Dry Zone forests of Sri Lanka.
