In the photo I notice two small dipterans. One looks to be taking nectar, another, below-center, might be a scavenger awaiting the next prey.

On one of the plastic jugs on my boardwalk posts; this one is frequented by jumping spiders, and I often find several on it at once.
No spiders today, but an ambush bug instead :)

I had long been on the hunt for this species. Using a reference of one sighting in the late 1990s, I was able to find a singular individual of this unique ambush bug species snacking on a honey bee just below the summit of Garnet Peak. Truly a "lifer" insect for me.

There were a lot of naked buckwheat flowers with ambush bugs on top of them.
This small section of ridge trail has been a fabulous place to record a variety of species of butterflies and native bees. I really hope the ambush bugs don't change that. :-(
