Description
On a conifer tree in the Botanical Gardens, growing with Amandinea punctata. I have tried keying it out in "The Freshwater Algal Flora of the British Isles (1st ed.)" that I borrowed from my university library and with the cup-shaped chloroplasts I end either here or in Desmococcus, but I cannot for the life of me tell whether there are pyrenoids in the chloroplasts or not. Is that even visible in views like these or would I have to e.g. stain with Lugol's or something?
Single cells (few) 8-10 µm across, pairs of two cells 8-9x10-14 µm.

Short video of this rare hybrid can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/cpBGNALFHQs
It showed up at our feeding station for a few weeks and mostly associated with Egyptian Geese, but also would follow with Muscovies as well on occasion. He had a real identity crisis!

Huge stab in the dark here but from Google associations there’s a photo of type of tiny black jumping beetle that looks very very similar to me to these photos. But of a guess here. I don’t know what category this would come in within Beetles either? I think it’s a jumping bug? 🤷♂️
