This was a really amazing moment for me as a photographer. It was mainly luck that I got the photo, but it was just so perfect. It was amazing that I even saw this, since chickadees don't usually hover, and even more that I took the picture at exactly the right moment.

One of the first River Otters to be released on the Rio Pueblo de Taos (a tributary of the Rio Grande) on Taos Pueblo land in fall 2008, part of a reintroduction effort in 2008-2010 to reestablish the species in the upper Rio Grande basin of New Mexico. This animal, as all the others released at this location, was captured in the Puget Sound area of Washington State and is referable to the subspecies L. c. pacifica. The native subspecies in the Rio Grande was presumably L. c. sonora which is extinct.

This black fibrous clump of something blew into the patio. It is filled with many, many seemingly diverse exoskeletons. Is it an odd kind of nest? spiderweb? Or, just an unlucky piece debris (for the insect/spiders it trapped).
