Many of these flitting around, some white, some yellow. They seemed to prefer feeding on these large-flowered Hackelia species.
I saw a strange bug flying around when it landed on the parking lot my suspicions were confirmed. This queen alate landed and promptly snapped off her wings
I found this argentine ant nuptial flight on an unseasonably warm evening. I thought argentine ants don't engage in nuptial flights
Killed by Cordyceps?
They remind me of Pheidoles that I saw regularly in Australia, but I don't think those are here. I've seen virtually no natives in this habitat so figures that these probably aren't too.
Another ant cricket
Gotta love these guys. Living in a Formica nest under a log.
Found this one in my bathroom.
It is about 1mm in length and can jump around if it gets stressed out (touched etc.).
~4mm
Found in a Camponotus nest
This brilliant colour is caused by IIV-31 (Isopod Iridescent Virus). I've been checking hundreds of pill bugs over several years for this unusual phenomenon and my persistence finally paid off!
Sadly, this total colour change is usually the later stage of the virus; once a pill bug is this bright it generally doesn't have much longer to live.
Agelenopsis?
Accidentally disturbed an ant brood deposit after lifting up tool.
Species: Rytidoponera Metallica
This species is fairly aggressive, especially when their nest is disturbed. They deliver a painful sting that is infamous throughout Australia, and are one of the most common ants around.
Interesting markings on this one
Milking aphids
seems to be a pretty uncommon form of this ultra common species
Caught with jig around midnight.
These were close to things all kinds of wood whether it was rotting or not rotting
I saw dark patches on vetches and thistles and went to investigate. There were scores of these ants and what looked like black aphids on the plants.
(Kennedy Trail)
Big flush of flying ants appeared this afternoon. Warm hot summer.
It might have been milking the hopper for honeydew, but didn't do so while I was watching
This was a sizable mass on a tree with a massive aphid infestation. Planning to take some cellular shots later.
Found this colony in a nut on the forest ground. I'm not quite sure if they are Temnothorax nylanderi or crassipinius.
Stumped!
I thought this is a fern, but it does not show up in any guide. Pls help.
The plant was growing,in a very old bottle left in the woods, with the roots growing outside of the bottle. The bottle was caramel color - not clear...? Odd.
Little jumping spider I found sitting on the door of my school. He looked lost, and there is not very much good vegetation around my school, so I brought him home in a Ziploc container from my lunch.
This vole was observed being harassed by a group of six Gray Jays.
pileipellis cross section, gills
This was an unusual find, the feathers of a yellow-shafted Northern Flicker.
This is a relatively rare West Coast visitor.
@karolina . Please help. Freshwater pond... This was moving and is very thick. Looks like a diatom, is very motile.

She built a web in a corner of our condo.
Was a bottom feeder, red in color. When I put it onto the slide to look closer at what it looked like, it did not spasm around in its droplet of water like the Daphnia and other copepods, it just stayed mainly still. It only twitched its legs that were tucked in side the upper right part of its shell. When I dropped it back into the jar, it did not move until it hit the bottom of the jar where there was all the scum. When it finally did hit the bottom, it scurried back into its business, showing that it was obviously still in good health and not sickly, as what was suggested by it not spasming in the slide very much.
Found this little guy hiding underneath a dewy plastic box this morning
Gigantic Amantia muscaria - largest ever seen. Emergent from gravel in mini golf 'Dragons Den' in mall. Appears to be the denizen of an intelligent life form - as evidenced by doors and windows. Most peculiar.
Near Westport Lighthouse
So awesome! Hurrah for fall.

Or a dusty Apiomerus crassipes?
Nymph. About 1/2" long; looked like a giant brown tick covered with dust (it was in the trail) until I got too close with the iPhone and it reared up and "boxed" at me with its thick, hairy forelegs.
