Closed black cottonwood forest predominantly pole-sized or small timber sized cottonwood and abundant Pyrola asarifolia in the understory. Seed capsules 3 parted and hairy.
Tidal marsh. Soils wet and organic-rich. With Argentina anserina (formerly Potentilla anserina) and Triglochin maritima. Tick marks in photos with scale are millimeters.
Growing in mossy tundra near Rubus chamaemorus, Eriophorum vaginatum, and Ledum palustre.
