I startled this Fox, who was in a wooded clearing. He or she ran to the fence line, then stood and looked back at me while I took these photos.
One of a dozen or more Honey Bees visiting Hellebore flowers on an unseasonably warm day (almost 20 degrees F above average).
Seen drinking water from a still basin in a water feature that's being repaired in a wooded suburban garden.
Seen rooting around in the leaf litter under this Dogwood tree (Cornus florida), then up in the tree branches as shown here.
Enjoying a splash in the bird bath. Also seen on the ground and in nearby trees and shrubs.
Spotted walking among the pine needles and tassels, with a brief foray onto a stone walkway. Fairly large for an ant here. I didn't see any companion ants.
This insect flew down a few times into my watering can before landing on this trellis. He or she is about an inch long.
Enjoying the blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium). Last shot is a context shot.
Drinking from a birdbath
Drinking from and splashing in a birdbath.
This pair of birds appeared today at the same time as a flock of robins. They went between a dogwood tree and a watercourse. I don't remember ever seeing birds like this here before. They were about the size of an adult robin.
Among dozens of others on an Abelia chinensis.
In a curbside garden that was mulched with woodchips in the spring.
Ball-point pen included for scale.
This small but lively bee was one of hundreds on a sunny swath of Solidago rugosa. They are about a third of the size of the carpenter bees, who preferred a nearby Abelia chinensis.
Tiny bee on Solidago rugosa.
