I see a large number of these every day since almost mid May, but this is one of the very few that made it easy for me to get an observation photo of.
The last two known to grow in this park. There were a few more when I was arrived 23 years ago. The gold-brown stem in the 3rd photo is the from last year showing that this plant was bigger last year. In the fourth photo, you might see both plants about 6 feet apart at the base of a very large Douglas fir for an urban park. Though at least the larger one has bloomed before, it isn’t blooming this year..

I found this salamander (plethodon vehiculum) under a log after dark (~9:45 pm) on a biology field trip to Camp Long near Seattle. The salamander had a stripe down its back and the log was on the side of the trail in close proximity to a pond. I estimated its size to be around 9 cm.
