What

Pohuehue Owlet (Meterana coeleno)

Observer

tansyjane

Date

October 9, 2024

Description

Found in house on window ledge. An odd looking I. lignana was my first thought. Have checked out guides and I. rubescens is also reasonable match from the photos, though well north of range.
Moth sat more rolled than usual for an Ichneutica and arch linking kidney marks noticable. Forewing on both sides almost creased lengthwise through kidney mark. Very similar to one caught on 8th, previous night and released. Could be same moth.

Specimen looked this way when caught. Could just see outline of mid forewing marking with hand lens.
