20 plants noted along shoreline, growing amongst Apodasmia similis. Often in pools of tanin-stained water. Most plants probably <5 years old, many with evidence of their first flowering this year (developing inflorescence). A few older ones noted. A new population for the islands, and in quite a different habitat to what I am used to seeing.
This population was discovered by Lorimer Albert, based at Henga.
One of the largest plants seen - stems c. 1 m across. This one growing above an active titi (Ardenna grisea) burrow in loose, friable soil with sparse Malva arborea.
A pair of pitpits lurking behind haraheke and the coastal astelia.
Uncommon epiphyte on stems of Dicksonia fibrosa.
Sighting and photos (c) averil.
