Tujunga Wash North
I put written tags underneath the snake and the lizard. I was walking down the path and saw movement.
A snake appeared to be curled at the edge of the vegetation. Before I could take a photo it retreated into the vegetation and I only managed this one photo that shows the back end of the snake. I didn't really notice the lizard til I looked at the photo and the lizard is in the spot the snake was in when I first saw it so I think the snake was about to eat this lizard. Guesses on the snake are coachwhip and rosy boa. I had an impression that it was darker than the back of it appears but it all happened so fast I can't be sure.
found on the trail. had 8 ticks on its neck.
found on the trail.
Basking on a coverboard. Same individual as (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/206723267)
I heard a weird rattle sound in the grass and carefully looked over to see the smaller, brown snake (male) courting the larger, dark snake (larger female). I know it was courting because it was doing the jittery rapid movement that males to do to stimulate females. When it was doing this, the female wagged her tail back in forth, which is what caused the rattling noise I heard earlier.
Juvenile. Stayed in hike path for about 15 minutes.
Individual previously found under a different piece of cover a few weeks prior by @cdegroof, third observation and the second specimen of this ssp found in the area in the last few years.
These images were the best I could do; I had to shoot into a storm drain through a hole in a chain link fence. This frog was making lots of croaking sounds.
