What kinda tree is this
Lucky to get a fairly decent shot as it swam by quickly. Fairly small; maybe 1.5 feet. It made for shore a little to my left, hesitating as I followed. I stopped and it turned again towards shore and slipped out of sight under rocks at the water's edge. I saw a couple more slithering movements coming down towards the water from rocks further ashore. Possibly more young snakes out sunning? Made me wonder if they congregate for warmth at night.
Possibly L. litoralis ?
This was the very dickens to photograph! It kept flying off - but coming back. It was so interesting-looking that I really wanted to know what it was. Back then (before I joined iNat), I tried search after search and came up with nothing.
Now I'm tremendously excited to find out that it is likely a robber - never would have guessed. (Yes it has the beard, but it more looks like the whole head is fuzzy.)
Even iNat didn't get me very close; only Asiloidea. Had to look at a lot of pictures from SC to get Laphystia.
