Near back yard bird feeder.
Dead bird I found right outside of Willis Library.
Found 11 miles back on a trail in the Gros Ventre wilderness. 2 days after a severe windstorm- we thought it was related to that. In the next mile we found another dead bird on the trail that looked like it had been there longer, a bit more decomposed.
Approximately 8 dead individuals in and tumbled under cavity two days after mass mortality event in Dixon, NM
Also Yellow Rumped Warbler, Northern Flicker, and Western Wood Pewee. Observed over 30 dead warblers in about 50 meter radius walked along highway north of Velarde the morning of cold snap, fall out, mass mortality event.
Adding to Southwest Avian Mortality Project
Found secreted beneath lumber. Freshly dead, not there the previous day. Photographed on 15th.
Unfortunately, found among a pile of feathers (all that was left of the bird). Most of the feathers were gray and less distinguishable.
Found dead still perched on a branch in Ruidoso Downs, NM
snow storm 9.8-9.9 and freezing temp. seemed to have claimed many birds in the area, saw at least five on a short day hike, including mountain bluebird, yellow warbler
Found this bird lying on the grass in our front yard right before our first hard freeze. I believe I saw it moments before climbing and pecking on one of the maple trees in our front yard. It was lying on its side in the grass, so I grabbed some gloves, a towel, and a box and placed it inside the box (open) on our covered front porch. Wildlife rescue was closed for Labor Day so we kept an eye on it and found that it had left the box a few hours later. I believe I found this same bird two nights later, hanging upside down on the trunk of a spruce tree next to where our bird feeder hangs from our back deck... it had died, but still had one foot holding on to the bark of the tree. It didn't seem to be breathing, but I placed it inside the box and left in our garage just in case. It was definitely dead. :o(

Found dead in our front yard
Found in throes of death at around 7:00 am this morning. Death by 9:00 am. Bird was found with no visible signs of damage. We have grating over windows so window strike is unlikely. The carcass is double bagged and stored in our freezer if needed.
Found 9/14. Photographed 9/16. Near Jornada HQ.
