This is a duplicate observation of another event participant who showed me these on a hardwood log. Perhaps 5mm wide caps or so. Gills marginate.
Growing under a lime tree indoors
On decorticate hardwood, likely Acer sp. Macroscopically identical to X. ellisii (=X. corniformis var. obovata) Ectostromal layer fissuring into fine, brownish scales. Papillate ostioles, conspicuous. Ascospores 9.5-12.6 x 4.2-5.5, straight, pale germ slit running approximately full spore length, inconspicuous. Name retrieved from “The Xylaria names proposed by C. Erumpent ectostromal discs approximately 3mm in diameter, occasionally creating a gelatinous mass on the surface. Perithecia arranged in a valsoid manner. On corticate branch of Carya glabra. Perithecial wall thin, exterior hyphae interwoven into plant cells of the substrate. Ascospores (9.1) 10 - 11.3 (11.9) × (3) 3.4 - 5.1 (5.2) µm with a straight, circumferential germination slit. Paraphyses short, abundant and with contents.
