Foraging on bladderpod in front yard at 316 Monrovia Avenue. Distinguished from Ruby-throated by dull back color, relatively long bill, and slightly "pinched" shape of outer rectrix. Still rather unusual for near the coast in Long Beach.
Unmarked breast, median head-stripe, wing bars, small bill, post-ocular stripe, rather flat head. No breast streaking, no apparent white "bib".
Too bad my photos are so awful. Please correct ID if you know what this is.
It was fun watching this chick grow up.
