one plant found in a recently burnt area
Silvermine beauty.
these ones spotted in the first season post fire, I didn't see them again the following year
This very beautiful little orchid, no more than about 8cm high was spotted amongst fynbos shrubs, obviously hoping to go completely unnoticed. So iSpotters - keep your eyes peeled . . . !! Congratulations on today's launch and "Thank You" to Tony and his team. This is a wonderful website.
Shallow marine origin sands over sandstone boulders. Under large Coleonema album. Habitat ecotonal Strandveld and fynbos, but also very moribund and thickety from lack of fire. I assume this is a satyrium from the twin spurs, but it doesn't look like any of the species. Perfume scent.
Single leaf, withered.
This is actually a new species of Aphonopelma that was discovered by Michael Jacobi (@michael_jacobi) and Dr. Brent E. Hendrixson (Millsap College) in October 2019. Species is currently being described by Dr. Chris Hamilton; species name will be announced in his upcoming scientific publication.
Introduced from Epping CA/Bofors Circle ca. 2010, planted by Maya Beukes. Also Erica subdivaricata here.
