This is a subspecies of the Common Box Turtle. Scientific name Terrapene carolina triunguis
Species from southeastern North America
Common name: Three-toed Box Turtle
This one heard me tromping around well before I saw it. It was already sealed up inside its shell when I noticed it. A quick flip to photograph the plastron, flip again, and I was on my way.

Not sure what kind of turtle this is. My family found near Ada, OK.
When first seen the turtle was crossing the road and about to get run over. The animal never would open up to show head or legs, so we put him into the wood and went on.
Crossing the road, but when picked up the animal closed itself in the shell.
Some type of turtles mating. Possibly a type of box turtle. Same species?
Helped this girl get up over a curb near Wilson Springs in west Fayetteville. I'm pretty sure I also saw her last year (2015) in mid May.
young female, unable to close shell yet. removed from traffic, placed back in safe spot once vehicles were gone.
Female crossing the road
two females crossing the road after cold front moved in within sight of each other. The first had been hit and was unable to be saved. This one made it unscratched.
Found on the cannon trail. DOA.
Hated to see it dead, but it is at least nice to see conformation that some are surviving the raccoons.
Male, found in tall grass, partially buried under leaf litter in a small hole.
