Small shell with a rough exterior that. The shell's exterior is white in color but appears dark brown due to perioscratum ("skin" outside shell of many snails, clams, etc). The maximum shell length is an inch, but most are much smaller.
Ecological fun fact: this snail is a detritus feeder. It feeds on the film on top of the mud that they are found buried in.

Eastern mudsnails are found in marine and estuarine habitats. They have brown dark brown or black, well-defined spire, oval-shaped shell. They exhibit a glazed brown and gray upper lip.
Fun fact: these snails have a very strong sense of smell and can find decaying fish and algae from far distances.
