Old nest material (central ribs of Doug fir needles). Found under large Doug fir.
This is probably one of my most regrettable (yet amazing) experiences based on a lack of knowledge at the time and the idea that I wouldn’t have found an uncommon animal. Red tree voles are very important to me.
Unfortunately this is the only photo I took.
Absolutely ecstatic that I found this! I have a habit of checking any clump of moss I see on the ground in Douglas Fir dominated forests and this time it paid off. The presence of resin ducts verifies that this is part of a fallen nest from Arborimus longicaudus. Scat can even be seen as well. See photos for chew marks on the resin ducts from feeding.
Accidentally dug this critter out of the ground while planting trees. I believe it was female. She was housed with a female Rough-skinned Newt.

Roadkill female :(
While I was at my girlfriend’s house through her window I saw a raccoon that was wondering around. I was alarmed at first because of how close he was then I slowly realized he was just curious and wanted to look inside of the house through the window. He stuck around for a little and just hung outside with her cats and then later left.
