Grenade aphids on garlic mustard in Ernie Miller Nature Center, Olathe, Ks
On garlic mustard in Roanoke Park. I would love confirmation from Lipaphis experts. (@rogue_biologist , @rford1213 )
I had these in alcohol then put in white vinegar to send in for ID confirmation. EDIT: Rebecca emailed me that she confirms the ID with microscope inspection of the samples I sent her. I added two photos she sent me.
"After looking closely, I still believe this is the garlic mustard aphid (Lipaphis alliariae). What I am primarily looking at is the cauda (tail) and that it is a wider more triangular shape as opposed to the turnip aphid which has a skinnier, more spoon shaped cauda."
These critters seem to be blighting garlic mustard.
Host: Alliaria petiolata
On garlic mustard. This doesn't look like Brevicoryne brassicae to me; I've seen that often enough in our garden. But maybe this is an earlier infestation than I usually see.
