The water level in the wetlands has dropped significantly this summer (2013).
Observed in Woodlands Park, Essendon. Also a hybrid duck.

These birds were in huge flocks of up to 200 individuals. They are feeding on the corms of the introduced Onion weed (Romulea rosea var. australis and Romulea minutiflora) both of which are common in the swampy ground.
