Sorry for the bad photos, an actual camera is on my to-get list! About 145 spread among 3 groups counted through binoculars on a sand island next to crocodile island. Known to regular at this roost before full tide. Wishing to see more of them over summer.
About 10-15 seen in the estuary and on beach. Group of around a dozen seen roosting on a sand island east of crocodile island. Regularly seen here. Flew past me many times as I walked down the beach. Must have been quite a lot of bait fish around today as there was also at least 5 gannets hunting(which is a high count in the Hauraki Gulf for me), mostly near red beach, seen from Orewa beach. Last photo acts as a reference of where the Caspian terns roosting on the sandbank in the estuary were, you can kinda see them in the photo as white blurs.
