The bird had an elongated neck, a slightly hooked beak, and red under the head on the neck. The plumage overall was gray and black. It perched in the middle of the Cultivated pond.
This was a cool encounter! I saw this owl maybe 30 minutes before I posted this observation as I was driving North along the road. It flew off east of me off over the trees so I just kept driving. Awhile later as I was coming back I saw it again. I got out to get a photo but it flew over to a large tree down a gravel side road. I walked over to the tree but did not see it. Then it just shot out and circled around me pretty low before flying off again. I only got one clear photo of it but had to crop it down as the owl was just barely in the frame. Second photo is from the first time I saw it as I drove by.
Three trunks, lots of berries
