I am a Buddhist priest in the Soto Zen tradition, and also a natual history enthusiast and small time botanist.

While at university, I worked with Bob Faden on the systematics of Commelinaceae (Dayflowers and Spiderworts) as an undergrad at the US National Museum of Natural History, and later on the phylogenetics of the grasses of the tribe Andropogoneae (sorghum, maize, switchgrass etc.) with Toby Kellogg as a grad student in St. Louis. I co-authored a few papers with each.

After my education, I worked at Indiana University's herbarium (plant specimen collection) as a curatorial assistant for several years, where I also worked a bit on documenting botanical county records in Indiana, especially in Lawrence and Martin counties. From 2022-2024 I was at the Sycamore Land Trust, a land conservancy in southern Indiana, where I was a land steward and later the land preservation director.

大学在学中、米国国立自然史博物館の学部生としてボブ フェイデンとともにツユクサ科 (ツユクサとクモノスズラン) の系統学に取り組み、その後、セントルイスの大学院生としてトビー ケロッグとともにアンドロポゴネア科 (モロコシ、トウモロコシ、スイッチグラスなど) のイネ科植物の系統学に取り組みました。それぞれと数本の論文を共著しました。

大学卒業後、私はインディアナ大学の植物標本館で学芸員助手として数年間働き、インディアナ州の植物学の郡記録の文書化にも少し携わりました。2022年から2024年までは、インディアナ州南部の土地保護団体であるシカモア・ランド・トラストに所属し、土地管理人を務め、後に土地保全ディレクターに就任しました。
