Why I use iNaturalist - I am a nature photography enthusiast. I like to take photos of organisms that are completely new to me and very much appreciate everyone for teaching me how to identify the species in my photos.

I am not a formally trained taxonomist (except for a few sponge species). I do have an appreciation for diversity, especially those rare encounter varieties. Please have a look at my various ocean-centric projects!

What scientists know about me - I am a professional marine biologist trained through an MSc, PhD, and several postdocs. I lead a niche marine ecology program that quantitatively monitors long-term changes in ocean habitats (I generate multidecadal, ecological time-series). Science-related keywords I get tagged with: deep-sea, sponges, hypoxia, seamounts, Antarctica, macrophysiology, benthic mapping, ecological monitoring, photography, cameras, ROVs,...,among others.

Here are some of my observations grouped into categories of interest:

I'm not an expert of any one particular group of species. For those interested, I would greatly appreciate ID suggestions on my observations in need of verification!
