As one of the principal artists in the Holdfast Art Project, I have set up a "Spotters Club" to document the predominant species of algae on the Port MacDonnell coastline in South Australia. When we have a list of resident species, I propose we monitor seasonal and environmental changes, adding our observations to the Boandik Seasonal Calendar, Weaving the South East Seasons.
The Holdfast Art Project combines art, culture and science to increase awareness and understanding of the unique algal biodiversity in our region. I studied marine botany with H B S Womersley at Adelaide University, completing Honours in 1972. Since then I have been a science teacher and spent 23 years working in aircraft maintenance, before finally following art in my retirement.
