Hello iNaturalist! My area of interest are the insect pests of trees and shrubs. I do my best to help the people of Massachusetts identify insect issues and learn more about their biology and natural enemies. If necessary, I help them work with professional arborists and landscapers on management plans. I work with UMass Extension to support the continuing education of professional land managers including landscapers, arborists, tree wardens, foresters, urban foresters, municipal, state, federal, and university employees (and more!) regarding tree and shrub entomology. UMass Extension takes an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, guiding managers to reduce their dependency on chemical insecticides and use alternate tools in the toolbox when available: mechanical and cultural management, biological control, and knowledge of natural enemies.
