I suspect that California prefers not to create a hunting season for an invasive that they plan to get rid of completely (again). If people develop a taste for it, like with Northern Pike in Lake Davis or wild pigs, then it becomes an enormous headache to get rid of it, because those that want it here will start introducing it! If people want to eat Nutria, go to Louisiana!!! We don't need an invasive that damages our wetlands. Wild pigs and wild turkeys are more than enough....
