Since 1890, there have been 16 verified mountain lion attacks on humans in California, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's website. Six of those cases were fatal. The first record of a human being attacked and killed by a mountain lion was in 1890, when 7 year old Arthur Dangle was killed by two mountain lions near his home in Quartz Valley.
