How to join this Project

Some folks are not used to iNaturalist, and are unsure how to join this Project so their Observations will show up.

Here's how to join:

  1. Log in to iNaturalist from a browser, not the app, with your iNat user name or email.
  2. Go to the New York Master Naturalists Project home page.
  3. Click the Join button in the upper right:
  4. Scroll to the bottom, check/select Receive updates from this project, then click the Yes, I want to join button.
  5. INat returns you to the Project page.

To confirm you were successful:

  • Visit the Members Page and find your iNat user name.
  • If you already have iNat Observations in NY, look at the list of Observers and find your iNat user name.

If you have any questions or issues, please send me a message on iNaturalist, or leave a comment on this Journal Post, describing the problem. That way I'll have your iNat user name and can investigate.

Yours in Nature,
@xris, your project Admin

FIXED! - Not all expected Observations/Observers showing up.

Thanks to Kristi's MN List blast, 9 more of you joined up Today!

UPDATE: Fixed the problem. I had misconfigured the Project in a way that was blocking "Members Only" from working. There are now 17 Observers out of our 19 Members.

Thank you for your patience!

Yours in Nature,
Xris

P.S. Leaving my original report below for context.

This confirms a problem I had noticed shortly after I created the project last week. All your New York Observations should be showing up in the Project. They are not. And it seems to be by User/Member.

I've reported this issue to the appropriate open thread on the iNaturalist Forum. Hoepfully, with more eyes on it someone will stubmle upon the cause, or confirm it's a real bug and iNaturalist is broken in some way.

Thank you for your patience!

Yours in Nature,
Xris

Master Naturalist Training 2024-09

I think I just got all my observations up from the weekend. It was a relatively small set for me, ~400 photos, because we were so busy with classes and workshops! (One day last month, I had over 1,200 photos!)

After processing, this resulted in only 66 Observations of 49 Species. However, 18 20 21 of those were new to me! So I'm happy with that.

I ws disappointed to find that most of the photos I took on "Moth Night" Saturday night (Thanks, @lamagswag!) were trashed, either way underexposed or overexposed. I was able to salvage some photos as recognizable observations. I'm not used to night photography, and I'm sure the UVs didn't make it easier on my cameras light sensor.

How about the rest of you? Any favorite observations? Cool finds?

Yours in Nature,
@xris
